Portafilter basket securing spring wire - available in the following thicknesses.
- 1.0mm
- 1.2mm
- 1.3mm
- 1.4mm
The thickness of the spring is directly proportional to the grip of the basket within the portafilter. Most stock portafilters use a 1.2mm spring - 1.0mm is a looser grip, and 1.3 and 1.4 are firmer.

It depends how firmly you want the basket held - and whether you use ridged baskets or not.Most people ate happy with 1.2mm.1.0mm is obviously a slightly lighter grip and 1.4mm is tighter - but the latter grips ridgeless baskets quite firmly (and may be too tight for ridged).

Being able to to remove my ridged baskets without a tool is so great. I'm using the 1mm one which is also holds in ridgeless baskets enough to be knocked out without falling in the bin.
