This is the black plastic protection disc for our Classic steam valve. Note that this part is NOT relevant to a standard Gaggia steam valve - only the Shades of Coffee steam valve.
It fits onto the Shades of Coffee steam valve, over the end nut, in much the same way as the standard black plastic protection disc fits onto the standard Gaggia steam valve.
The steam valve shown within the product image gallery is obviously only included for information and context - this product is ONLY the black plastic protection disc.
If you prefer and have access to a 3D printer and suitable filament/material then you can download a 3D printable version (v1) from here or a more basic version (v2) from here, if you want to fit one - though be aware that the steam valve can reach a surface temperature of 150C+ (so PLA and PETG will melt). Ours are made from PA12 nylon.
IMPORTANT NSTALLATION NOTES: The protection disc is designed to be a VERY tight / firm fit on the steam valve nut. Due to the size and shape of it, it's also not possible to install or remove the protection disc with the steam valve installed on the machine. We therefore recommend removing the valve from the top of the boiler, and then removing the large nut from the end of the valve. The best way to fit them is to take the nut and disc and press the two together in either an arbor hand press or bench vice. This will ensure the surfaces and pressure is flat and perpendicular to the pieces. Alternatively, place the nut on a sturdy flat surface with the small opening facing upwards - and then position the disc on top of it and press it down hard. You must ensure that everything is flat and the disc isn’t at an angle; otherwise you do run the risk of breaking it (and such breakage is not covered by any warranty). Never use a hammer or similar to hit it - you need firm vertical pressure to press it on. We use a small manual lever-press to fit them, which works very well every time. It should fit so that the nut is almost completely covered by the disc mounting. You may find that as the ribs within the disc mounting deform, it will help if you remove the disc and clear the disc mounting of any excess plastic that has already come from the ribs before then retrying to fit in the same way, with firm downward pressure. You can then refit the nut to the valve (simply use the protection disc to rotate the nut and tighten it - you don't need tools) and then position and refit the valve on the top of the boiler.

Ribs inside seems to be unnecessary. Mine got crack, because of that. There is just no place to fit a nut. Installed on flat surface with hands push only. [SoC] the ribs are there to provide a perfect friction fit. They distort when fitted and ensure that the disc fits the nut exactly. Without them the disc fit would be too loose or too tight. Please follow the installation instructions on the product page. They will never break when fitted correctly, and ideally quickly and easily with a hand press or vice - to provide constant level pressure.
