Many users have asked us about using smaller shower screens in the Gaggia Classic - typically 51.5mm ones, such as:
- IMS CI200IM (51.5mm)
- Decent Espresso 'Dimples' (51.5mm)
- PCL Shower Screen (51.5mm)
These shower-screens won't fit a standard machine with a standard sized Classic dispersion plate. However, we have now had custom shower screen silicone gaskets made which will allow the use of these screens on a standard Classic (using the original aluminium dispersion plate, the Pro/Evo style stainless steel / brass dispersion plate, or our RainFlow dispersion plate) - so you dont have to buy a different size of dispersion plate purely so that you can use them.
It's a simple case of installing the silicone gasket into the dispersion plate (removing the protective clear plastic from the gasket first, and wetting it often helps it to stick into place whilst mounting) and then screwing your shower-screen of choice into place on top of it.
We've also had good results when using these with standard Classic sized shower-screens (54.5mm/55mm), as it moves the screen slightly further away from the dispersion plate - and allows for the user to experiment with different retaining screw tensions (which often causes thin screens to flex more or less, depending on screw pressure).
The images above show the standard dispersion plate, then the silicone gasket installed, and the with the Decent Dimples screen installed.
The shower screen gaskets are supplied as a set, containing two of each thickness of gasket.
- 2 x silicone shower gasket (48mm ID x 55mm OD x 0.5mm thick)
- 2 x silicone shower gasket (48mm ID x 55mm OD x 1.0mm thick)
You can experiment using the different thicknesses of gasket, and different screw tensions.
Any size of shower screen from about 49mm up to 55mm diameter should be usable with the Classic using these gaskets - as long as the centre screw hole is appropriately sized for the M5 mounting screw on a Classic.
