This is an Gaggia OPV as fitted to many Gaggia espresso machines. It differs from the Classic Pro version in the following ways:
- Nipple and internal valve are a white metal alloy (probably stainless steel, though unconfirmed) rather than brass.
- Different sized spring and standard pressure rating (approx 16 bar rather than 12 bar).
It is otherwise identical to the OPV used on the Classic Pro (and various other models, including the Classic V2 / RI9403) globally. It screws onto the top of the pump.
IF YOU HAVE BROKEN YOUR BLACK PLASTIC OPV OR YOU'RE FITTING A DIFFERENT SPRING ANYWAY - THEN THIS IS A CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE TO THE REGULAR CLASSIC OPV.
(If you wanted to, and have an original Classic OPV, then you can swap the brass internal valve cap and brass nipple, and spring over from that to make this identical)
When fitting a new OPV the (pink/red/orange) braided pump-to-boiler pipe must be removed from the black plastic nipple, and reattached to your new OPV with a "one time use" Oetiker clamp. Finding and obtaining these clamps isn't a simple process usually - so we help and include two within this package (you'll need one, and then have one spare just-in-case). The clamps are tightened using a special tool, or we find that a pare of pliers/wire cutters works just as well. You can find more information on fitting oetiker clamps on YouTube.
The product image gallery shows some images of this Gaggia OPV (steel nipple / top) alongside the Gaggia Classic OPV (brass nipple / bottom).
This package contains:
- Gaggia OPV Safety Valve
- Two oetiker style clamps
