This beautiful wooden handled regular spouted portafilter is suitable for any Gaggia Classic model.  It will also fit some other Gaggia models that use a similar portafilter group mount with 6.6mm ears/wings.

Specification:

  • Width:  approx 78mm wide (ear to ear)
  • Length: approx 235mm
  • Handle diameter : approx 30mm
  • Handle material:  white ash (as a natural wood product, the tone / grain and lightness or darkness of finish can vary)
  • Portafilter material: polished chrome plated brass
  • Supplied with:  double spouts (3/8" thread) and basket retaining spring
  • Portafilter spring: 1.2mm or 1.4mm based on availability

Note that this is a regular spouted portafilter - we also have a naked / bottomless version of this portafilter with the same handle.

Some other models that this portafilter will also fit include:  New Baby, Baby, Baby Class, Baby Twin, Baby Dosata,
Gaggia Coffee, Classic, Classic V2, Classic Pro, Classic 2019, Classic 2020, Classic Evo, Classic 2023, Classic 2024, Classic E24, Evolution, Dose, Pure, Color, Paros, Tebe, Espresso (NOT Gaggia Espresso 2023), Topazio

As the wooden handles are a natural product, the graining and colour of the wood can differ slightly from that shown.  We have included additional images to demonstrate some of the possible variances in the wood graining and staining.  Also whilst we try hard to protect the wood from any damage, as they are commercially manufactured wooden handles they may occasionally have small dents, scratches or dings in the handle - though this obviously doesn't impact performance and if any are noticeable then we can provide advice on adjusting the mounting and minimising the visibility of them.

NOTES:

Spout position - When the spouts are attached to the portafilter you may be lucky, and they may tighten in exactly the position that you want the spouts to be in.  However, most of the time this is not the case, and with every spouted portafilter you can wind PTFE tape around the thread of the portafilter to adjust the position/point at which the spouts tighten and eventually point.  Typically you may need 10-15 turns of tape on the thread in order to do this - though more or less tape will allow you to adjust the final tightening position further. Depending on the locking in position of your portafilter you may need the spouts in different positions, or as your group gasket wears or is replaced this may change - but adding or removing tape will allow you to adjust the position of the spouts.

Spent puck removal:  If you're ejecting your spent pucks directly into the waste (bin/can/garbage), then with any portafilter you may well find that the basket exits as well.  We would always advocate the use of a proper "knock box" to ensure that this doesn't happen - whereby the basket is pushed into the portafilter whilst the spent puck is ejected, and there is no risk of loosing the basket from the portafilter,

Your question:

What is the maximum basket this can fit? I’m using a 20gr basket and it’s really tight, I can hardly fit the portafilter into the group head… I think this only works well with 18gr basket… can you clarify?
Our answer:
You can use a 15g, or 18g basket if you have an 8.5mm group gasket;  the larger 20g precision baskets (due to the straight sides on these) will just fit - though it becomes easier if you have an 8.0mm gasket.  The 22g baskets won't fit, they are too deep and you need a bottomless.
